George Romney was born at Dalton, in Furness, on the 26th of December, 1734. He was the third of eleven children, and discovered at an early age a great passion for mechanics. He was also, says Mr. H. 'enthusiastically attached to music, and passed much of his time in various experiments to make violins of different shapes and powers. He and Hayley had met in 1776; and one of Hayley's first publications had been his Epistle on Painting, Addressed to George Romney 1778. In 1830 Romney's.
