In this article, we use Lindström Gessel Viennot Lemma to give a short, combinatorial, visualizable proof of the identity of Schur polynomials — the sum of monomials of Young tableaux equals to the quotient of determinants. As a by-product, we have a proof of Vandermonde determinant without words. We also prove the cauchy identity. In the remarks, we discuss factorial Schur polynomials. I would also like to thank Amritanshu Prasad, Arvind Ayyer and Pooja Singla for proposing the problem. I am also thankful to all the reviewers for the careful reading of the manuscript and their valuable comments. I would like to acknowledge support in part by a UGC Centre for Advanced Study Grant. Thangavelu Geetha, Amritanshu Prasad, and Shraddha Srivastava Abstract. The alternating Schur algebra AS F n;d is de ned as the com-mutant of the action of the alternating group A d on the d-fold tensor power of an n-dimensional F-vector space. It contains the classical Schur algebra as a subalgebra. N Raghavan, B. Ravinder and S. Viswanath, Journal of Combinatorial Theory A, 2018 to appear provides a fresh perspective on these new bases, realizing them in a manner that is closer in spirit to the original Gelfand-Tsetlin point of view. Specifically, a new combinatorial idea, namely that of a "partition overlay" on a GT pattern is introduced. Eleven lectures by Amritanshu Prasad on representation theory, the first two on generalities, the next five deal with representations of symmetric groups in the semisimple case, going up to the calculation of character values using Frobenius' formula. The next two deal with polynomial representations of GLm. Humphreys: 29: Representations and Cohomology: Volume 1, Basic Representation Theory of Finite Groups and Associative Algebras by. Representation theory and character theory have proved essential in the study of finite simple groups since their early development by Frobenius. The author begins by presenting the foundations of character theory in a style accessible to advanced undergraduates requiring only a basic knowledge of group theory and general algebra.

Weil's representation is a basic object in representation theory which plays a crucial role in many places: construction of unitary irreducible representations in the frame of the orbit method.
