Solvent behavior in hydrophobic silica nanotubes - Volume 899 - Douglas English, Charles Luckett, Karthik Jayaraman, Sang Bok Lee, Sang Jun Son, Kenji Okamoto. We use molecular-dynamics computer simulations to study the relaxation dynamics of a confined simple liquid. Two types of confining walls are considered: A rough wall and a smooth wall. The simulation is set up in such a way that the static properties of the confined system are identical to the ones of the bulk.
Jan 02, 2007 · Broad-band dielectric spectroscopy 10 −2 Hz–10 7 Hz is employed to study the molecular dynamics of three low-molecular-weight glass-forming H-bonded liquids being confined in dielectrically inactive porous glasses with pore sizes of 2.5 nm, 5.0 nm and 7.5 nm. From the relaxation time distribution of the dielectric spectra, a three-layer model is deduced, consisting of molecules. The solvation dynamics of water in lecithin/cyclohexane reverse micelles have been determined via ultrafast time-resolved fluorescence studies. At hydration levels w0 ≤ 4.8, the reverse micellar samples are nonviscous. Here a single relaxation time is observed that is much longer than the response of free or bulk water. In contrast, small additions of water to the samples produces a viscous.
The development of dynamic force spectroscopy DFS has given us a useful framework for guiding our thinking about how to test single-molecule transitions with external fields [3-5]. The crucial concept is that force-mediated transitions in weakly interacting systems do not occur at a single characteristic value of the applied force. Sep 15, 2005 · Inelastic neutron scattering was employed over recent years to investigate the influence of spatial confinement on the dynamics of glass-forming systems. We review the common phenomena observed by neutron scattering in such different confining hosts like porous glasses, molecular sieves, clays or free standing polymer films, which impose a. The structural relaxation of a glass-forming simple liquid, 3-methylpentane, is studied by triplet state solvation dynamics as a function of the distance from the surface in porous silica. By bonding the optical probes to the pore surface, we observe interfacial dynamics which are 3 orders of magnitude slower compared with the bulk, equivalent to a surface induced glass transition. Consistent.

Jun 11, 2010 · We have studied vibrational dynamics of the T 1u mode of the CN stretching mode of [RuCN6]4− in D2O by infrared IR nonlinear spectroscopy such as an IR three-pulse photon echo experiment and polarization-sensitive IR pump-probe spectroscopy. The isotropic component of the pump-probe signal shows a bi-exponential decay with time constants of 0.8 ps and 20.8 ps. Nov 01, 2007 · 1. Introduction. Fibre-reinforced polymer FRP jackets have been widely used in practice as a confining material for concrete columns to achieve significant enhancements in both strength and ductility,.As the design of such jackets requires an accurate stress–strain model for the concrete they confine FRP–confined concrete, extensive recent research has been carried out on the. This formulation enables us to reveal an appealing, and previously unexplored, relationship between the Fokker--Planck equation and the associated free energy functional. Namely, we demonstrate that the dynamics may be regarded as a gradient flux, or a steepest descent, for the free energy with respect to the Wasserstein metric.

The impact of thermally active molecular rotational and translational relaxation modes on the friction dissipation process involving smooth nano-asperity contacts has been studied by atomic force microscopy, using the widely known Eyring analysis and a recently introduced method, dubbed intrinsic friction analysis. Two distinctly different model systems, i.e., monolayers of octadecyl.
The present paper deals with important differences in the distribution of free volume in high and low free volume polymers as indicated by a joint investigation utilizing molecular modeling and positron annihilation lifetime studies. The main focus of this paper is on the molecular modeling approach. The polymers in question are the ultrahigh free volume polymer poly1-trimethylsilyl-1. Sep 13, 2013 · The purpose of this review is to discuss the development and the state of the art in dynamic testing techniques and dynamic mechanical behaviour of rock materials. The review begins by briefly introducing the history of rock dynamics and explaining the significance of studying these issues. Loading techniques commonly used for both intermediate and high strain rate tests and measurement. The pressure gradient that arises while heating in a TPA experiment is a result of the large difference in the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the pore solution and the solid phase, α L ≫α S, and the low permeability coefficient k of the cement paste. In TPA experiments, the strain is monitored, so the problem is to predict the strain caused by exposing a sample to a temperature cycle.

Mar 16, 2020 · Unfortunately, a small particle volume is also known to promote the non-radiative Auger decay of multiple excitations, greatly diminishing the MX feasibility. Even in the case of longer-lived biexciton populations n = 2, the Auger decay time constant could be as short as just a few picoseconds e.g., CdSe or PbSe NCs, 60,61 60. Phononic crystals PCs and metamaterials MMs can exhibit abnormal properties, even far beyond those found in nature, through artificial design of the topology or ordered structure of unit cells.
