COX RINGS Antonio Laface Universidad de Concepci on Abstract. The construction of the projective space Pn, as a quotient of Cn1 n f0g by the action of C, can be described in combinatorial terms in the language of toric varieties, as shown by the following picture for n = 2: The above construction is encoded in the polynomial ring RPn:= C[x 1;:::;x n1]. Jun 01, 2020 · Given a surjective morphism π: X → Y of normal varieties satisfying some regularity hypotheses we prove how to recover a Cox ring of the generic fiber of π from the Cox ring of X.As a corollary we show that in some cases it is also possible to recover the Cox ring of a very general fiber, and finally we give an application in the case of the blowing-up of a toric fiber space. The Cox ring of a del Pezzo surface of degree 3 has a distinguished set of 27 minimal generators. We investigate conditions under which the initial forms of these generators generate the initial algebra of this Cox ring.
Let X be the blowup of a weighted projective plane at a general point. We study the problem of finite generation of the Cox ring of X. Generalizing examples of Srinivasan and Kurano-Nishida, we consider examples of X that contain a negative curve of the class H − m E, where H is the class of a divisor pulled back from the weighted projective plane and E is the class of the exceptional curve. 2 Batyrev - Popov. We consider rational varieties with a torus action of complexity one and extend the combinatorial approach via the Cox ring developed for the complete case in earlier work to the non-complete, e.g.
In algebraic geometry, a Cox ring is a sort of universal homogeneous coordinate ring for a projective variety, and is roughly speaking a direct sum of the spaces of sections of all isomorphism classes of line bundles. Cox rings were introduced by Hu & Keel 2000, based on an earlier construction by Cox 1995 for toric varieties. Cox Rings Cambridge Studies in Advanced Mathematics by. Looking at the well understood case of log terminal surface singularities, one observes that each of them is the quotient of a factorial one by a finite solvable group. The derived series of this group reflects an iteration of Cox rings of surface singularities. We extend this picture to log terminal singularities in any dimension coming with a torus action of complexity one.

The Cox ring of any variety is more or less the ring of sections of all effective line bundles. So first, line bundles that don't have sections don't contribute generators to the Cox ring. Second, a single line bundle hence a single element of the Picard group may have lots of linearly independent section, so may contribute many generators.
