The Yorkshire Philosophical Society publishes an Annual report, detailing its activities of the past twelve months and including the annual financial statement. The Yorkshire Philosophical Society is a charitable learned society, founded in 1822 when “philosophical” had the same meaning as “scientific”. The Society’s primary aim is to promote public understanding and involvement in the academic disciplines of the natural and social sciences. The Society also gives an annual sum to support the Yorkshire Museum and provides volunteers for some of its departments, such as the observatory and the library. Researching the provenance origins of the Yorkshire Museum’s previously the Yorkshire Philosophical Society varied and often, eccentric collections from 1870-1880. The collections feature: zoology, archaeology, minerals, geology, natural science, rare books, coins, medals and journals. The Yorkshire Philosophical Society was founded in York in 1822. Funded by public subscription, the Society aimed to further the study of the natural sciences then called natural philosophy, and specifically to ‘elucidate the geology of Yorkshire,’ as well as to create a scientific museum and library as a repository for their work. The Yorkshire Philosophical Society was formed in 1822 by individuals keen to pursue the study of natural sciences. The Society founded the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens in York and, although these were passed into the care of the City of York in 1960, it still continues to take an interest in them, as well as pursuing its objective of supporting scientific research and education through grants. The museum was founded by the Yorkshire Philosophical Society to accommodate their geological and archaeological collections, and was originally housed in Ousegate, York, until the site became too small. In 1828, the society received by royal grant, 10 acres 0.040 km 2 of land formerly belonging to St Mary's Abbey for the purposes of building a new museum. He was a member of the Reform Club and the Yorkshire Philosophical Society from 1844. He died in Scarborough in 1882.  A statue of Leeman by local sculptor George Walker Milburn, paid for by public subscription, was unveiled in 1885 and stands outside York railway station;   Station Road was renamed Leeman Road at the same time.
